Mending, 2024 - Ongoing
A collection of mended clothing, along with two mending kits made from my naturally dyed fabric remnants."You repair the thing until you make it completely" - Louise Bourgeois
I’ve always mended my clothing, but encountering visible mending in recent years transformed how I think about repair, celebrating it instead of hiding it. Mending feels like an act of resistance against consumerism. It promotes sustainability, extends the life of the things we use, and fosters a more mindful relationship with what we own. By repairing rather than discarding, we reduce waste, conserve resources, and challenge fast fashion culture.
I love how visible mending makes a garment truly personal. The way we wear holes into our clothes is unique to each of us, shaped by how we move and what our daily activities are. And with infinite ways to repair something creatively, mending becomes a form of self-expression.
