Dye Journal, 2021 - Ongoing
Handbound journal finished with Japanese stab-binding.
I began this journal many years ago as a grad student taking my first natural dye course. I handmade the book with covers wrapped in indigo-dyed Dutch cloth from my collection of vintage textiles, and finished it with brick-pattern endpapers that I letterpress printed. As my natural dye practice grew more intentional in early 2021, I found myself returning to this journal. It has become the place where I record process notes each time I work with a new plant dye or technique. I see my dye journal as an essential tool in my practice, but also an art form in its own right.
The following pages are selections from my dye journal, created over the last five years of my dye research.
