Mother Lupa, 2025
18” x 21”
Cotton broadcloth and seconhand linen hand dyed and screenprinted with plant dyes. Filled with organic cotton batting, machine sewn and hand quilted with perle #8 cotton thread.
This mini-quilt was created in collaboration with my husband, Chris Kline, for a Twins-themed art show held at Tshatshke Jewelry Studio in May 2025. The central image of the She-Wolf with Remus and Romulus, designed and drawn by Chris, was screenprinted with madder root dye and eco-printed using homegrown dye flowers from my container garden.
The quilt back is pieced from my collection of plant-dyed remnants, including bundle-dyed linen and cotton, and an indigo section made using the Nigerian cassava-paste resist tradition Adire Eleko. I designed a vining flower motif for the hand quilting and finished the quilt with a hand-sewn binding. Each element reflects a slow, intentional process rooted in deep care for both craft and nature.
