Secondhand cotton and linen dyed with homegrown and foraged plants. Filled with organic cotton batting, machine-pieced and hand-quilted with #8 perle cotton thread.

This mini-quilt was pieced from leftover 3-inch squares from my last large quilt top. I was interested in creating a design with a limited color palette using only these remnants, cut and sewn into half-square triangles. For the quilt back, I decided to use a single piece of dark, acorn-dyed linen that would allow the pattern of the hand-quilting to stand out.

These smaller wall hangings, or β€œmini-quilts,” offer a much shorter path from start to finish than a traditional quilt, which can often take me months to complete. Their scale gives me the freedom to experiment with piecing, composition, and hand-quilting designs that can later inform larger works.

The plant dyes used in this mini-quilt include madder root, indigo, marigold, weld, avocado, and acorn. The quilt was exhibited as part of a group show featuring the work of members of the Philadelphia Guild of Handweavers in June 2026.
